The Ladies and Gentlemen series was commissioned by Italian gallerist Luciano Anselmino, to celebrate the emerging drag and trans community in the 70’s New York. Andy Warhol took hundreds of Polaroid pictures of a number of subjects that were recruited to model for him, amongst them were famous LGBTQ+ activists and rights pioneers. Warhol also produced several paintings in this series.
