In his Cathedral series, Hirst employs one of his signature motifs: butterflies. The butterflies are arranged in a mandala-like pattern that calls to mind the stained glass windows of European cathedrals, in this case the famous St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.

The Cathedral series was modelled by the artist’s, based on his Superstition paintings of 2006.
